MAP/Pricing & API access

The rate card.

MAP is priced like the institution it is. A charter for the membership. A meter for the throughput. A settlement basis for cross-org value flow. Four tiers — Sandbox to Sovereign — covering every operating posture from solo dev to nation-state deployment.

01 · Constitutional Pricing

Three components.

Not pay-per-call —
pay-per-citizenship.
i
Charter
Membership.
A monthly base per organization. Grants access to the institutional surface — identity (MACS), governance (MAXIM, MOAT, MACE, MOOT), audit (MAX, MOMENT, MOTET), economy (MEAL, MANA). The cost of citizenship.
ii
Meter
Throughput.
Three dimensions, transparently rated. Tokens for cognition. Seconds for compute time. Watts for energy. Every call costed against the published rate card; every dimension reconciled by MEAL. No silent overage.
iii
Settlement
Clearing.
Basis points on cross-organization flow. When two organizations transact through MADE, MAP takes a small clearing fee — paid once at settlement, recorded on the audit chain. The institution funds itself through the value it witnesses.

03 · Rate Card · MEAL Dimensions

What gets metered.

Three independent units —
reconciled into one ledger.
Dimension I
Tokens
$3.00/M tokens · cognition

The unit of thought. Charged on agent protocols (MARC, MACE, MAVEN, MOOT, MAGE, MARI, MAGI). Input and output counted independently against the calling capability budget.

Reasoning calls · MARC, MACE
Dimension II
Seconds
$0.018/sec · execution

The unit of presence. Charged for wall-clock time held against a deadline — useful for long-running workflows (MOON), durable orchestrations (MAESTRO), and physical operations (MOTE) that hold real time.

Workflow time · MOON, MAESTRO
Dimension III
Watts
$0.42/kWh · energy

The unit of work in the physical sense. Tracked for GPU-bound inference (MARC, MAGI), heavy synthesis (MAGE), and tooling (MAKER) where energy draw is the binding constraint. Tracked, never hidden.

Compute · MARC, MAGI, MAKER
Dimension IV (cross-org)
Settlement
25 bps· clearing fee on MADE-settled value

When two organizations transact through MADE, MAP charges twenty-five basis points on the gross settled value as a clearing fee. Comparable to a stock exchange's clearing house. Reduces to 15 bps at Institution tier, 5 bps at Sovereign tier.

05 · The Questions We Are Asked

Frequently · honestly.

Pricing is a contract —
we read it back to you.

Why a charter fee and metering, not just metering?

Because what you are buying is not just throughput — it is access to a working institution. Even a quiet month at the Institution tier costs us in council deliberation time, audit chain integrity, treaty maintenance, and policy currency. The charter funds the institution. Metering funds your use of it.

Is MAP open source?

No. MAP is a commercial protocol mesh under L1fe AI's license. The specification is published; client SDKs are available under a commercial license bundled with API access. OAS, the identity standard MAP adopts, remains an open standard at openagent.id.

What about heavyweight agent calls — MARC, MACE, MAGI?

Those are metered most heavily on the token dimension (cognition) and watt dimension (compute). Sandbox tier excludes them entirely. Institution and Sovereign tiers come with priority queue or dedicated capacity to avoid waiting behind other tenants.

Can I pay in stable-coin / x402 micropayments?

Yes. From Charter tier upward, settlement can flow through MADE in supported stablecoins or via x402 micropayments. Self-settling agents that pay-per-call are explicitly supported and recommended for high-velocity workloads.

What if my audit needs are stricter than the included tier?

Audit retention extensions are available as an add-on: $200/mo per organization per additional year of retention, perpetual at Sovereign. Real-time audit replication into your own systems is included at Institution and above.

Is there a startup / research program?

Yes. Pre-revenue startups and academic researchers can apply for a one-year Charter tier credit. Email research@l1fe.ai with a one-page description of the work.
